A List of Things I'm Thinking About While Lying in Bed

- Archie Comics are coming out with a new, gay character called Kevin so that they can be more with the times. Wouldn't having an old, beloved character come out of the closet (as so many think Jughead should do) be a better, more progressive idea? I think that the most effective way to kill anti-gay sentiment is to slam homophobes with examples of safe, media friendly gays- many of the recognizable gay and bisexual celebrities out there (Lady Gaga, Marc Jacobs, Isaac Mizrahi, Adam Lambert, Perez Hilton) are provocative to Middle America even without considering their sexuality.......I think the world needs someone to come out that is so conventional (being religious would be a plus!) that social conservatives thought they already had 'on their side'. Nobody springs immediately to mind, but something to think about...

- I have to work tomorrow morning and I just know that I'm going to wake up craving one of our blueberry oat muffins. I started this bad habit of eating muffins (aka 'cake in the morning') for breakfast, and now my gluten-free diet FORBIDS THE EATING OF SAID MUFFINS. C'est interdire. It's a strange diet that allows neither cake nor All Bran Cereal, isn't it?

- I am so happy with my ESL students. I'm like a proud mother whenever they correct their own writing mistakes or use particularly nuanced language- it's what teaching's all about, man. I almost think that adults give a more rewarding experience than with kids, as there are so many layers (pride, past experiences, culture, prejudices) to get through when teaching a grown human new concepts
